What a Custom Business Website Actually Costs in India

Website quotes in India range from ₹8,000 to ₹8,00,000 for what sounds like the same brief. The spread is real and it is explainable. Here is what sits behind each band.
The bands
₹8,000 – ₹25,000. A template configured for you, usually by a freelancer. Fine for a simple credibility site. You are buying setup time, not design or strategy.
₹40,000 – ₹1,20,000. A custom-designed site of five to ten pages, built properly, with SEO structure and reasonable performance. This is where most Indian SMEs should be, and where we start.
₹1,50,000 – ₹4,00,000. Larger builds: e-commerce, multi-location or multilingual sites, 3D or interactive work, content-heavy architectures with dozens of service and location pages.
₹5,00,000 and up. Platforms rather than websites — logins, dashboards, integrations, custom application logic.
What actually drives the number
- Page count and uniqueness. Twenty pages of genuinely different content is a different project from one template repeated.
- Who writes the content. The most common cause of a stalled project, and frequently the largest hidden cost.
- Integrations. Payments, CRM, ERP and WhatsApp API each add scope.
- Performance requirements. Holding a Core Web Vitals budget is engineering work, not a setting.
- Whether you own it. Cheaper quotes often come with a platform you cannot leave.
The recurring costs nobody quotes
Domain, hosting, SSL, plugin or platform licences, and maintenance. Budget a modest annual figure for a small site and meaningfully more for e-commerce. A quote that omits these entirely is incomplete rather than cheap.
Two questions before you sign
Ask who owns the code and accounts after launch, and ask to see three live sites you can test on your own phone. The answers to those two separate a durable build from a rented one more reliably than any price comparison.
Related questions
A template setup runs from a low five-figure sum. A custom-designed five-to-ten page site typically sits between ₹40,000 and ₹1,20,000. E-commerce, multilingual and interactive builds run higher, and platforms with logins and integrations higher again.
Page count and content uniqueness, who writes the copy, integration depth, whether a performance budget is held, and whether you own the result. Cheaper quotes often assume a template and a platform you cannot leave.
Domain, hosting, SSL, any platform or plugin licences, and maintenance. A small site needs a modest annual budget; e-commerce needs meaningfully more. A quote that omits these is incomplete rather than cheap.
